Where art & history converge
Just steps away from MASS MoCA, one of the country’s largest centers for contemporary visual and performing arts, Porches Inn was developed from a row of beautifully detailed Victorian row houses that have been lovingly restored and connected to form unique common areas.
Our 47-room boutique inn both pays homage to the generations of mill worker families who called this historic community home, and captures the spirit of creativity that is bringing North Adams fresh vibrance. Through our intentional blend of old and new, the Inn welcomes tastemaking travelers who are delighted by its vintage details and modern comforts.
The Porches Inn was created by businessman Jack Wadsworth, an alumnus of nearby Williams College, who wished to revitalize a block of vacant 19th-century row houses across from the growing attraction of MASS MoCA.
Working closely with Nancy Fitzpatrick, owner of The Red Lion Inn, the property was converted into a destination for tastemaking travelers. With an imaginative renovation that included long verandas for guests to gather and bold combinations of indoor and outdoor spaces, there’s no other place quite like Porches.
Porches is committed to collaborating with the North Adams community to build a lasting legacy of art, beauty and vibrance. From the restoration of green space and creation of parks for local youth to the community-building work of caring volunteers like the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition and the championship of creativity by visionaries such as the Clark Art Institute, MASS MoCA, and the FreshGrass Foundation, we honor and support the efforts of those engaged in building a strong future for the region.
