An oasis for the creative spirit
Porches is proud to serve as a sanctuary for visiting creatives. Our state-of-the-art onsite recording facility, Studio 9, is home base for the FreshGrass Institute, which offers master workshops, residencies and commissions for artists of all kinds. Next door, our FreshGrass Annex is a space where artists can settle in to create in a private retreat, or in collaborative sessions.
FreshGrass Institute
Fueled by the FreshGrass Foundation and rooted here at Porches, the FreshGrass Institute nurtures the creative process through artist residencies, immersive workshops, fellowships, and commissions. It fosters boundary-pushers and tradition-shapers across music, writing, photography, and more.
Studio 9
An acoustic and architectural gem, Studio 9 is the creative heart of our campus—a recording and performance space beloved by artists like Wilco and Aoife O’Donovan. This distinctive venue is open for artist bookings, and also hosts live performances and intimate gatherings for guests.
The FreshGrass Annex

Designed to echo Shaker simplicity and the industrial heritage of the Berkshires, the Annex features 10 thoughtfully minimal guest rooms, four light-filled artist studios—including a fully-equipped music rehearsal space—and generous communal porches that invite connection and collaboration.
